When we get our chickens how long should they stay in their run before letting them have a go at free ranging?

The general advice is for 5-7 days. That way they can orientate themselves properly. Then try ranging them just before it gets dark so they get used to finding their way in on their own. I just increased it after that. But be sure to have treats at the ready when you want then to come in as otherwise you can end up spending lots of time chasing them round!

i only managed 4 couldnt wait, they were fine but it was nerve wracking the first time. have plenty of treats ready and helpers to herd them in the right direction if needed
