Chookiehen
If he is not motivated by cash, then has he decided exactly what he hopes to do when he leaves school? Perhaps the motivation of not wanting to end up flipping burgers for a living may help? (with no offense intended to those who work in fast food restaurants - my brother has has forged a highly successful career managing one) Jobs are becoming more and more difficult to get these days again, even for Uni graduates, so employers are becoming more choosy about who they take on. Surely he will appreciate that those with better marks than him come results time will be more likely to end up with the career of their choice.
