cluckingmad
Hi all Got home late on friday to be mer by my hubby-to-be lookign very worried about Jemima.. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a chook with a bright pink, bald bottom. She's perfectly happy in herself and I haven't seen any pecking at all, she seems to be eating fine and goes bonkers if you get corn out when she's in earshot (as do the others)... always thought chooks moulted from the neck down rather than the bum up?! Could this simply be a moult, she's about 10-12 months old, we got her from Omlet last August... Will be ordering some poultry spice just in case... The Dogmother
If you got her at the end of last summer then she's unlikely to moult until this autumn. Have you investigated for lice?
cluckingmad
Not fully - checked her over at the week-end and couldn't seen any, will double check this evening...
The Dogmother
Just a thought, but when they get lice around the vent, they pluck out the feathers down there in an effort to alleviate the irritation. If it looks sore, then either spray with a water spray containing a couple of drops each of tea tree and lavender oils, or use some Johnsons tea tree cream that you can get from most pet shops.
