AJuff
I went out to give the chooks left overs last night, they had already put themselves to bed rather early. So they all came tumbling out of the cube in a rush to eat. Poor little Delia our Brown Nick DD favourite hen came out rather too quickly and made a bad landing. She didn't move from the spot and was clearly hurt. I checked her over but legs and wings seemed in tact. I put her into the cube as she was clearly injured. She has not been out of the cube all day and refuses to place any weight on her legs. She flops to one side with her wing outstretched. She is eating well with a food bowl infront of her but she is not drinking. We syringed water into her and put her in the eglu on her own to rest and recover. is there anything else we can do? She doesn't seem in pain or uncomfortable>
Egluntyne
Could she have dislocated something? If she isn't weight bearing by tomorrow, I'd make an appointment with the vet, to be on the safe side. Look out for any redness, bruising or swelling. An Omlet favourite for injuries such as this is to give arnica pilules 30c strength 3 - 4 times a day. Also, keep up with the fluids, and I'd also bring her indoors and keep her warm. AJuff
I'm not sure what a dislocation would look/feel like. I have settled her in the eglu with food and water to hand and a hottie to keep her warm. OH won't hear of a hen in the house. I have to say though it was getting rather warm in that cosy eglu. I have just checked on her and she is comfortable and warm. Syringed more water into her and will see how she is tomorrow poor thing. AJuff
Delia update . . . . . She is very comfy in the eglu nesting area. DD has positioned food, mealworms and water in front of her which she is eating well. After four days rest she is now beginning to stand but hasn't ventured out yet. Delia is very perky and is recovering slowly. We are all very happy as she is such a cute hen!!!
