Skin flakes in coop

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody

I'm a little bit worried about our three hens and wondered if someone could offer some advice please. Yesterday when I cleaned their droppings tray I noticed there were lots of gray flakes which looked like skin flakes or small shards of nail. I cleaned the tray and put it down to one of them having a moult, but I've just cleaned the tray again and again there are lots of gray flakes.

I have no idea what these are and can't seem to find anything out on the internet about what it could be. I'd be grateful for any advice or information that anyone has as to what these flakes are?

Thanks very much

Julie

Thanks for the advice. They are ex-battery hens so were a bit bald when we got them two months ago. There are some new feathers poking through the skin now so that must be what the gray flakes are from! I was a bit worried earlier, I thought they might have mites or something!

Welcome to the worries of ex-batts :) I'm sure mine added to my grey hairs when we first got them
