Single hen

Hi there one of my chickens, chistie, has a nice red comb and everything but one of the spikes has the very end of it turned black its nothing major hopefully, but im not sure its just the very tip of the comb thats turned black. if anyone knows why id me very greatful.

Thanks a lot oh and does anyone know when chickens will start laying again?? mine stopped laying in mid november and they arent laying still well ive had one egg haha

Hello and welcome to the forum.

 

It is probably just an injury....a bit like a bruise. Could have been caused by a well aimed peck or by catching it on her feeder or a shrub or fence in the garden.

One of our leghorns had the same. Upon watching them for a couple of days it turned out, as Egluntine suggested, a well aimed peck... they have settled down now and all is ok.

It could have been frost bight from when it was really cold...

 

I put vaseline on our White star Lilly when it was really cold to protect her comb... she quite enjoyed it being rubbed in too.... Once we'd caught her of course

well great news i was just with my babes today lol and Christie's comb is fine now its nise and red and she looks great. lol just really hard to keep her head still so i can get a good look haha, thanks everyone for the advise
