Pecka BLock untouched......and then it rained

Recommended Posts

Well, I am totaly cunfused now! I had a feather eater, did everything - Purple Spray anti - peck, treats, toys, bumpa bits ordered, Pecka block hung up (untouched) She would not leave the others legs / bottoms alone completely obsessed!

Well i came home yesterday and found they had discovered the pecka block! Well it had rained really heavy the night before and it must have made it easier for them to get the first few bits off so they were all having a taste.

However the naughty feather eater was now being picked on! Really do not know who is top hen!!

I have ordered 4 bumpa bits, do really not want to fit them it sounds awful! and anyway Midnight will not let us catch her! she really hates being handled although seems to be getting a little tamer.

So will wait and see how things go, I hope peace and harmony break out soon! I really didnt think it would be this long to sort out their order. My neighbour told me If I had a cockeral it would all be fine........but I am not taking that comment as her approval to get one!!! me thinks she might be the first to complain!!

Regarding bumper bits - If you feel bad about fitting the bumper bits - dont. Betty pecked Chloe to death last year when I had only been keeping chickens for a month. This was a big shock. A kind omleteer sent me some spare bumper bits and I put one on Betty (I held her while my husband put it on) she has been wearing them for a year now. She can still eat and drink normally and it doesnt seem to affect her at all. I tried anti peck sprays but they didnt seem to put her off. I would recommend them.

Thank you for replies, I know that the best option is to fit the bumper bits.......they should come today.

Is it best to fit them onto all of the birds or just the naughty pecker?

Its just that it seems to change on a daily basis here!
