One of our girls has recently, on occassions, started laying eggs with the odd crease or wrinkly end on them. Yesterday day though the egg was really wrinkly/creased all over, no smooth surface at all. It was covered with really deep ridges and looked really strange. What could be the cause? Should I be worried? She seems perfectly happy, feeding well and pottering happily around the garden and coming to the back door to say hello and time for bed. She has also been wormed recently.

My elderly girls tend to lay wrinkled eggs.

 

All sorts of theories abound ....from infectious bronchitis, to stress, to calcium deficiency.

I have noticed that it seems to be age related.

We got all our girls in July, we were later than expected picking them up and were told that they had all just started laying. Do you think we might have been misled? The one who lays wrinkly eggs does lay larger eggs than the others and OH did say that she looked like an old lady when she turned up.( not that he knows anything about chickens!). She seems quite happy though so I suppose there's nothing to worry about. Thanks for answering - I was beginning to feel a bit unloved!

Oh don't feel unloved I've had wrinkly eggs before, out of the blue, then goes back to normal. They were fine inside. But since they were one offs I didn't worry too much.

Theres sometimes so many posts it's hard to keep track, so don't feel let down. Others have offered great advice now, as long as they are yummy don't worry. Hope it all goes ok.
