vetty82
Came down to the cube this morning and we had..... 2 EGGS!! The girls only arrived on Monday! Wasn't expecting anything for ages. However the daft things decided to lay them on the roosting bars - and even managed to crush them and send them through the bars into the dropping trays. Hmmm I dont really fancy the idea of scrambled eggs and chicken poo. Hopefully they'll get the idea of what the nesting bit is for soon. Have weighed the not so crushed egg and it was around 30g. Not bad for first effort hopefully. xx

HENthusiastic
well done them. Two of mine laid their first egg in the wrong place, but after that its been plain sailing. If they don't get the hang of it, you could always buy a pot or rubber egg and put it in the nest box to give them the idea.
Chickvic
Congratulations! I wouldn't have eaten the scrambled egg and chicken poo Hopefully you'll get to eat the next one!
Hen Watch
Congratulations. I'm sure they will get the hang of where to lay soon. It could also be that the first few eggs are "softies" and my lot just seem to know that soft shelled eggs get laid on the roosting bars and not in the nest box. No idea why they do that? Egluntyne
They will soon get the hang of laying in the nesting box. Why not pop a couple oof golf balls in there to inspire them? Sounds as if they were caught short and weren't sure what to do.
