this may sound a little odd but i was wondering if anyone elses female ducks tried to mate each other? mine have been taking it in turns and trying to do it back to front, sometimes on the water sometimes on land. They are both defo girls, laying etc no drake around.

 

any suggestions? its not a problem, just slightly odd

They will do it to establish the pecking order - it should settle down. As long as there is no damage to them they will be OK.

ah ok, they seem to be having fun, taking it in turns. Just makes us laugh. Vanilla is slightly bigger and manages to actually bend her tail around for their bits to meet! chocolate gets on the wrong way and ends up tugging vanillas tail whilst she sits on top

My mums female ducks do this - they head bob and then will occassionally get on each others backs and peck each others heads.

 

It is slightly odd behaviour but they don't seem to mind so we let them get on with it really!

\probably worse in spring and the wild ducks if yours are out free ranging willprobalby try to mate with them...spring has sprung! indie
