BeckyBoo
.....well, finally got rid of Scruff my Brahma boy today. He went to his new home where he will be free to cock-a-doodle-do to his hearts content and will finally get to "see to" birds of his own size for once. I knew he had to go and it was starting to stress me out every time he crowed as I know one set of neighbours was less than impressed. But. I'm really sad! I didn't expect to be quite this sad but the run looks really empty without him (well he was massive!) Then to cap it all as I was making arrangements to drive him over to his new home the Rhode Island Red that I had earmarked as Easter lunch started crowing too!! So that's another one I have to lose, same reason, can't keep crowing birds and although I don't feel anywhere near as attatched to him because he was always going to be dinner I still don't really want to be doing it today. And to cap that my Buff Orpington is not responding at all to her steroids and Baytril for a possible ear infection so I don't know what to do with her. On the one hand she's happily scaatching around eating and drinking but then every so often, probably five or six times a day, she starts flinging herself around on the ground scratching her head on one side. So do I let her continue or should I despatch her too? She's not in pain and mostly she's fine but she's no better. Bloomin' hens, they get under your skin even when you think you're fine with it all! BeckyBoo
Seagazer
I'm sorry the two boys are having to go. I remember the photo of Scruff, he was a very handsome boy. No idea with your orpington though but I hope her ear gets better before you have to do anything drastic
Janty
How old was Scruff when he started crowing?
Snowy
Aww, hard when you get so attached to them all isn't it? But maybe time to be thinking about the next brood
BeckyBoo
But maybe time to be thinking about the next brood Snowy! You are BAD Although must be honest and the thought had crossed my mind......, at least with any future hatches I will hatch only what I KNOW I can eat if they're boys, I so desperately wanted a Brahma which is why I was so attatched to Scruff. Poor boy, he looked a bit stressed when we left him. And Janty, he was a good six months old I think, mind you the RIR started today and he's not 6 months old yet I don't think. And he's not very big, I was going to try and fatten him up a bit, I'll have to see how noisy he is, see if I can keep him for a bit longer.
