Help please - very noisy hen!

Recommended Posts

PS Is it really possible to re-train a hen??????

I reckon so, they certainly seem intelligent enough to me!

I was/am exactly the same as you, I worry a lot and like I say my OH says I am paranoid.

Maybe just try and chill out and not let the noise bother you (even if its loud)...I sometimes think the hens know it works us up and play on it. :notalk:

I have just seen my neighbor through the hedge so I bit the bullet and asked if the chickens were bothering her! Guess what? She said not at all!!!! In fact she said that they have had to drag their son out of bed at 7:30 for the last week and they have ended up being late for school! And that chicken noise was all part of the buzz of the countryside

I told her if they were a noise nuisance to let me know straight away so I am not going to worry anymore. She thought I was very sweet to ask her and she worries aout her three kids and new Yorkshire Terrier puppy disturbing us!!

I am now in charge of Margot and she will not rule the roost anymore :!: I shall :!:

May take my neighbor some eggs though just to be sure!

there you see! all that worry and stress and she was just as worried about her yorkshire terrier. Just goes to show that its "us" that worry and the chickens cant be heard over the fence after all.

Enjoy them now and next time Margot shouts her beak off blow a raspberry at her!

Margot was extremely vocal this morning and I caved in and let her out at 6:20am. :( As soon as she is out she is quiet (for a little while anyway) and I don't mind getting up at that time as my young children are up early and we are so tired on a night that we go to bed pretty early too!

What worries me is when we are away! This morning it wasn't just a bit of crowing it was the full on alarm call that they sometimes do when they've layed an egg or are spooked. It really is very loud!! You would think that the cube would muffle the sound a bit but I actually think it makes the noise echo!

I am hoping things will quieten down a bit when the clocks go forward! I was really looking forward to summer but now I am not so sure if they are going to be so noisy!!! I am hoping it is just Spring Fever and at least I have spoken to my neighbor about it.

Chickens eh!!!!
