Poo help please!

[fluffyknickers]

Got the Omlet chicken fencing yesterday and spent this afternoon putting it round the run and cube so i could get back a little of the garden that I don't have to poo pick after they have been let out.

I am feeling really sorry for them but know its for the best and they still have a nice little space to walk around in when out of the Cube run.

I think its really great stuff and highly reccomend it. Very easy to put up and I did it on my own with not much struggle (would be easier with two of you).

I have made a little 'door' to walk in and out of without having to pull out a pole each time.

As it comes in 25m and I have only used a small amount I took the poles out the unused fencing so have quite a few poles round.

QUESTION - am I supposed to put tent pegs round the bottom?

PHOTOS to follow when camera charged up!

Here they are. After I took these I added a few more poles from the unused netting.

I didnt get any pegs with mine for the bottom, but will buy some and put them in.

HI

I havent bought any but if u look further back in this section I asked what omlet netting was and apparently it comes with some screw pegs which are meant to go at the bottom to secure it into the ground.

I am going to get some netting it got good reviews, but i think you have to be around to leave them in it OR electrify it otherwise Mr Fox may visit

Sounds u like it too

Some cheap fleece pegs from the garden centre will do the job, you only need to stop the chickens getting under it by pegging it down

[Hen Watch]

Mine wasn't supplied with any pegs. But I did find the sections needed pegging down onto the lawn. 2 or 3 pegs per long section between poles. (I don't electrify my Omlet fencing and I'm not sure if pegs would have an implication for that).

At this time of year with damp grass it is easy to bang a few pegs in the ground (bit more of a pain come summer which is why I move my chooks to their summer spot in April).

Would really like to see how you've done your door in the omlet netting. Have read other descriptions but couldn't quite work out what they did. Looking forward to seeing the photos. Keep having to rescue my kids and their wellies from the netting at the moment!

MazzyC dont feel bad these are the most lucky chickens around...they look great and you can move the lot if it needed a good clear out/overhaul

Thanks Indie999 - I know, I am sure thy will be happy (if Nuggets 80g egg is anything to go by today!) I just wish I had lots of lovely land for them.

I will try and describe what I have done to make a little door but I will probably have to take better photos of it open, closed etc to give a better idea.

Basically I have created a rectangle with the netting putting poles around it. Where the rectangle joins up I have cut the netting BUT left a larger piece of netting that is enough to go AROUND the last pole and hook over the pole next to it. So all I do is lift off the extra 'flap' of netting and open it up and step in.

Will take pics!

I've just posted a traumatic event this morning where a fox almost got tangled permanently in my netting . he seemed to have forgotten how to jump.

My netting is attached to the little hooks on the posts which stops the hens getting under..But I am still wondering if tent hooks in between these would have helped keep the netting really taut when he tried to go through it ???

I am out all day tomorrow but plan on getting some tent pegs on sunday.

hi, your runlooks great, we are going to relocat our hens, in a week or so and need advice. We have a big area of bark down the end of garden, which the eglu could sit on, BUT ive been told by lots of people thaat bark is no good for the hens as it can go mouldy, so we are going to get rid of the bark, WHAT SHOULD WE PUT DOWN ???/ Any advice, what have u used, great to hear, alex

My run has inside it has mostly aubiose and some woodchip and then the area inside the netting fenced area is bark.

There are lots of types of bedding including Hemcore.

If you go to the offical Aubiose website there is a telephone number and you can ring them to find your nearest stockist.

Also have a look at your nearest horsey supply place and see what bedding they have and then you can ask people on here what its like.

I personally wouldnt use Bark in the run as read it can get mulchy and not nice.
