Mrs Webmuppet
LMW has a pretty sturdy constitution ( it's all that fresh air she gets sailing), so far she's had very mild chickenpox and a few nasty colds ( although she did end up in hospital once as a baby with the summer v&d bug). Apart from the winter norovirus I rarely catch anything and to my knowledge never had a 'childhood' illness.
SAB
It's said that the worse you get chicken pox the less likely you are to get shingles. That is good news. I've been worried about getting Shingles, but I had Chicken pox really really badly when I was little. My sister had the worst case of chicken pox any of our local doctors had seen - until they saw me! I had it at age ten - externally and internally, as far in every orifice as Drs lights could shine and inside eyelids, on soles of feet, etc. So sore to eat that I survived on yoghurt, mayonnaise, and abernethy biscuits dunked in tea! Went off them all for ages . Anyway - 2 years back I got shingles and then a bout again 6 months later - but I am 40 now, so it was almost 30 years clear for me and I work with kids so in touch with chicken pox regularly. Also, my shingles were not nearly so bad as I have heard others report.; and I was really run down for a variety of reasons at the time. My daughter got chicken pox just as my son was born - she was 2 1/2 at the time and only got 10 spots. Bizarrely my son was born with chicken pox! This baffled the docs but seems to have been due to him arriving early and I had obviously been in close contact with my daughter and they reckon I did not have time to pass immunity on to him - he was neither up nor down, but did look like a toad . To top the lot, at the same time my OH got his 4th (and last) bout. So there I was, the only non chicken poxed person in the house, having to cover folk in calomine (a smell that still nauseates me since my childhood chicken pox) in between nappy changing and breast feeding . Guest
As an aromatherapist, let me pass on this tip. It is excellent for children over four years of age, and i've used it on adults too: 7 drops of Ti-tree 7 drops of lavender............................Essiential oil Add to 50mls of witch hazel. Then add 50mls of rosewater. Shake the bottle well before dabbing on the blisters with cotton wool. Takes the itch away and helps the blisters to heal in record time.
