Chooks Aloud
For a couple of months now Daisy has been laying softees. Now she is not laying at all. She keeps going into the nest and making noises as if she is laying, but nothing appears. I've checked her round the vent - can't see anything. She's nice and clean. I've tried everything - cod liver oil, pro bio yoghurt, worming her, weetabix, limestone flour - the list is endless. What do you think is happening? She looks lovely with a nice red comb and is acting normal, apart from not laying, and is eating/drinking normally. Karen
Snowy
How old is she? I ask because one of mine has had a really late moult - she stopped laying about 3 weeks ago, lost a few feathers and laid a few softies but seems to have come back into lay again now. Her comb and wattles didn't shrink and go pale, but she definitely had a little rest Another possibility is she may be thinking about going broody, especially if she keeps wanting to sit on the nest. The Dogmother
Sounds like that may be the case. As there's nothing specific to report, I'd just keep an eye on her and carry on with the excellent care you're already giving her. Some tonic in their water won't go amiss; I use Lifeguard, which is all natural and seems to work well with my girls when they are moulting.
