noyan
I think I have put to much nesting material in nest box (eglu cube). filled it to entrance hole . I now get one chook laying an egg whilst another sits and watches. Second chook started laying today. When i go to get egg have to dig around cos some kind bird has hidden it. do you think I should take out some of the straw? Still cannot break habit of them sleeping in nest box. Any advice great fully appreciated
fluffyknickers
I was wondering the exact same thing! Think I spoil mine as its well padded in there and they seem to like it as all sleep in the nest - however I think one is now perching on the ledge of the hole as there are a lot of poo just next to it like her bottom is sticking over the bars! Each weekend I empty it completely then fill it with newspaper at the bottom, some woodchip and aubiose (sometimes shredded paper if I have it). However I then daily have to grab handfuls of it with the pooh in so come Friday its gone down quite a bit. I would like them to sleep on the bars but can't bring myself to stop them . Clash City Rocker
I don't use anything in the nesting box of my Cube, mainly due to the fact that it leaks and I was forever having to change damp shredded paper. My chickens have been laying like this for the last year.
