two new additions tips please

Recommended Posts

I got my original three girlies (2 gingernut rangers and 1 miss pepperppot) on Valentines day of this year. Today I have just got two young bantam hens too! :D

I was aware that at the very least initially, the three and two would have to live seperately and I was fully prepared for this they have their own seperate housing, however I did initially plan to put both runs next to each other to allow them all to get used to seeing each other throught the netting. However I have tried this, this afternoon and straight away the noise made by my originals was untrue - I have never heard noise like it from them!

This was so much the case that I had to move the two newbies to the other end of the garden temporarily out of sight of my originals just for a bit of quiet. I didn;t want my battleaxe neighbour all of a sudden complaining about the noise - when up until now my originals have been fairly well behaved and haven't caused anyone any problems! :shh:

Does anybody out there have any similar experiences / tips - i would like to have all of my girls in one area of the garden eventually!

I have just experienced the same thing. Two newbies and two existing orps. Well the noise for the first few days from the Orps was surprising, they are normally SO quiet.

I think the trick is slowly slowly and from a distance.

The newbies will have been here a week tomorrow in their own (green eglu) on the otherside of the garden to the (cube green) and it has all gone quiet. This may change when we start free ranging on Sunday
