mictogirl
Does anyone know if there is such a thing? I'm thinking ahead to my veg beds this summer which obviously the girls won't be going anywhere near but I want to be extra sure - I don't want to poison garden birds either. I know you can get nematodes (sp?) and things like that, but it seems an awful hassle and copper tape type stuff is expensive. I want the ease of pellets really and I'm sure I read you can get pet safe ones these days as there has been such a demand for them. Anyone know? Thanks! Laura. OwenLdn
Hi Laura, Sorry I cant help with the slug pellets question – but its something I have been meaning to ask too- so will be hoping someone can answer this! I did use the wildlife friendly pellets once in the past but I don't remember what was written on the side of the pack regarding which pets it was safe for. Also I was wondering about grow more- which is a fertiliser that comes in a white pellet- I often use this before the chickens but realise they might look tasty to a chicken. Any ideas? madchickenlady
I'm not risking slug pellets this year, but am going to try crushed egg shells! So helpful these chooks
mictogirl
Sorry, don't know about the pellet fertiliser - I'm intending on using the worm juice from my wormery on all plants this year madchickenlady - good luck with the crushed eggs shells. I tried them last year with zero success I'm afraid, we went from small courgette plants to bare earth in a couple of nights despite a large ring around them
Tessa the Duchess
I have bought some organic slug pellets the company is called Growing Success Organics Ltd. I spent ages at the garden centre talking to the staff, I am assured these are safe for animals, children and birds, I really hope so Tessa
Happy chickens!
I've used these too - I'm sure the girls have had the odd peck and they're still here!! Crushed eggshells have never worked for me, nor coffee grounds. I use copper tape around my greenhouse shelves, but it's very pricey now.
