docile breeds

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

What breeds have you found to be really docile? I am looking for suggestions for a bit of a mad cap reason.. Herding!

We have no dog trained sheep on the island (except the very expensive rare breed ones that they'd never let me learn on in a million years!) and several people have suggested starting with ducks or chickens. I already have chickens, so it seems worth a try!

My silky duo flock together lovely and aren't bothered by the dog at all, so i've got some silky eggs ordered, and on the advice of a friend i have some orp eggs in the incubator, but i'm open for other ideas. With a bit of luck i'm hoping to get good enough for the local ag show as a bit of a fun sidelines, since they normally bring over a dog and ducks!

I love this idea!

Can't help at all though I'm afraid...

But the idea of using dogs to round up my couple of feathered fiends when they just don't want to go back into their run has made me smile on a really horrid Friday afternoon at work!

Faverolles are supposedly docile, not sure if they are 'freak out around dogs' docile or 'sit there oblivious to the dogs best efforts' docile... or the responsive sort of docile you would be looking for!

What I read was that they are often bottom of the pecking order.
