Speckled Sussex

Recommended Posts

I have Partridge Chanteclers, but have become enchanted with the Speckled Sussex. Can anyone provide great websites to read up on them?

Anybody who has this breed, I would love to see photos or read your stories n the breed. I'm thinking of adding them to my Partridge Chantecler flock.

Umm...I have yet to really really fall in love with mine. She is very big and quite lazy really, likes to sit on the nest and hog it for ages. But that is the heavy breed for you! Apparently they can become broody and make fantastic mothers. She's a bit bossy and can often block the food with her enormous body. That said, she let's me stroke her when she is laying and I lifted her off her egg and held her - she was quite like a teddy bear. She eats a lot, likes foraging but is also very content with being in her run. She is vocal at the moment but it has only been three weeks....

She is very beautiful though and apparently, her feathers become more lovely after a moult, as they change. She is milk chocolate brown, with white flecks. Also green luminous flecks in the light.

Must get some photos organised...

I'll have to spend some time figuring out how to attach photos in order to show my own birds. But here are some links where you can see the Partridge Chanteclers:

This breed is rare and very difficult to locate. They are on Canada's Rare Breed's list:
