Lizzie
A new problem for us now; Wilma is one of our recently adopted ex batts. Yesterday afternoon she started standing around, closing her eyes and looking hunched up. It looked liked she was trying to pass something, we thought possibly a soft egg, but all she was passing was poo with some mucas. This morning, she came running out of her eglu nibbling at the grass with the others, but within 5 mins, had gone back to standing around, hunched up again etc She is passing what seems to be blood in her toilet together with white and mucus. Could it be coccidiosis, or is she shedding her intestinal lining and in both cases, do we need to get treatments from a vet (which I am assuming we do). We are going to bring her in to keep her warm Any advice gratefully received as always Regards Liz Edited April 9, 2009 by Guest
Egluntyne
Might be worth worming her. I have an idea that she will have been vaccinated against coccidiosis if she is an ex-batt. Is it frank blood or just pink bits? Has she been overdosing on garden worms?
Lizzie
Wilma does free range in the garden and their run is on fresh turf so she could have been eating a load of worms. If she did have worms, would it make her so off colour ? and hunched up as though she wanted to pass something ? My hubby who is keeping an eye on her for me put her back with the other two as she seemed to be lonely - he also said that there had not been any more blood in her poo which is good. She is on the nest now so everything crossed that whatever needs to come out will. I will update again. Regards Liz
Lizzie
News just in from my hubby who is monitoring Wilma. She has laid two eggs ! One normal (though a slightly rough shell) and the other was a soft egg. She seems to have perked up now, not surprised What has happened and what can we do to try and avoid this in the future ? I will now call to cancel vet appointment ! Regards Liz
