lucie
We got our chickens on 3rd April from Omlet. The delivery man said they were 16 weeks old and wouldn't start laying for 3 to 4 weeks... but we got our first two eggs on 7th April! We had no eggs yesterday, but Hetty spent 20 minutes in the nest box this morning and we have egg number 3! Question - I have 1 of each omlet bread , as you can see from photo, the eggs are quite similar (one is smaller and slightly more specked and brown) - would it definitely be one egg per chicken..? or can a chicken lay two eggs in one day? I am not sure how different the eggs from and are. Just seems a coincidence that they both layed their first egg on the same day... or is this not that unusual..? Flo, , hasn't showed any interest in the nesting box or any signs of laying.
cordelia
I think you only get one egg per chicken...I certainly do.... I think they tend to lay a similar egg each time too...mine do..... one has speckles and one doesnt...and the naughty cream legbar lays erm...small cream eggs...not blue...so hers are easy to see.. well done to your chickens.... I waited months for my first egg...you must be very pleased

smithy36
Yes - only one egg per chick per day - it takes 24-26hrs to produce an egg - so def only one. I think that the girls may have been a little older, and already laying - so straight onto it gain once they had settled after the move. As previously stated - the eggs always look the same - maybe size differeces, but shape and colour and markings remain consisitent - the trick is to identify each one and then you will always know who lays what!! Good luck and get your recipe book out -lots of yummy eggs to use soon!
