davidf
Does anybody know the Dimensions of the original Eglu Mark I? Or rough Dimensions? I went to the post that discusses the differences between Mark I and Mark II but it unfortunately does not mention dimensions. Thank you David
Gallina
I understand that the external dimensions of the Mark I Eglu are exactly the same as the Mark II -- that is why a list of differences does not mention dimensions! Superficially they look just the same.
davidf
Thanks Gallina, how did they get more room on the inside of the Mark II?
Redwing
Thats a good point! Someone who has mk1 and mk2 may be able to elaborate but you are right, Omlet market the mk2 as suitable for more hens than the mk1 so surely the size must be different
Egluntyne
I have a yellow Mark 1. When I am dressed I shall go out and measure it.
ali-s
I have a mark 1 and a mark 2 Eglu, so I have just been out to measure my mark1. I measured the length of the mark 1 as approx 76cm and the width 76cm, the wind was blowing the tape measure about and I was trying to avoid kneeling in poo I also measured the height and that was approx 66cm. When I have had both eglus side by side you can see that the mark 2 is slightly larger than the mark one. The mark 1 Eglu door is smaller and my hybrids have to duck a little bit when going into the eglu, once in though there is plenty of head room. I have 4 hybrids in my mark 1 at the moment and when they are snuggled up together there is plenty of spare room inside. The nestbox is smaller on the mark 1 but big enough for a hybrids fluffy bottom I was out measuring the Eglu in my pj's and dressing gown and a pair of wellies
Redwing
Crikey Ali, you are dedicated to the cause! I do think David will be grateful though
Egluntyne
I did it in inches. I got it a bit narrower....28" - 71 and a bit cm, but apart from that, we tallied. 20" (66cm) high and 30" (76.2) cm long. All approx. The nest box, the pop holes and the doors are a little smaller. My Mark 1 also has a smaller poo tray and a rdent proog mesh base, not a solid one.
ali-s
I did it in inches. I got it a bit narrower....28" - 71 and a bit cm, . You are probably right Egluntine. I measured in inches and then turned the tape over to see what it was in cm. I need my eyes testing.
davidf
Wow, thanks everybody. I wasn't expecting such a dedicated effort! The markII is 2' 8" square. but according to your measurements the Mark I is narrower by 4" and it's length is shorter by 2" I guess that would account for the extra chook space. Thanks again, David
Gallina
I am sorry I misled people: I always thought the differences between the Mark 1 and Mark 2 were only internal, with a larger area available for roosting. It would be good to mention the size on the official list of differences: for someone with a very small garden intending to stick to two hens, the reduced dimensions could make a difference. sean
I'm trying to replace run with eglu run kit. It seems to have a narrower footprint.
