ChickyGirls
I have 3 ex-batts that I rescued in Aug 08. They live in their eglu on the lawn and seem to have recovered very well from their previous life in a cage. They have been laying very well (75 eggs last month). Today when I opened the Eglu I found one of the girls had died in the night. She was 18 months/2 yrs old, seemed in good health and are no signs of disease or wounding. I don't know what precautions I should take with the other 2 girls? Can any one advise?
chelsea
Sorry to hear about your hen I am sorry I do not have any experience of Ex batts but I know they are fragile girls from their time spent in the cage. It may have just been her time to go (could be any number of reasons why a hen passes away). I would just give your other girls a routine once over health check every week or so - check for lice, mites, etc and I always worm my girls every 3-4 months or so.
