Chillicat
hatch fertilised golden pheasant eggs using a broody (Omlet) hen? That is if I could get hold of them in the first place! And is it possible to keep hens and golden pheasants together? I know some people keep ducks and chickens, but OH is dead keen on giving it a go I have broody, hatching and rearing experience so I have no issues there, however I would appreciate any advice on the golden pheasant itself and if its possible to keep them with the girls. I have a cube with 5 hens, a spare eglu and a broody coop.........plus space to keep them separate if needed. TBPH I'm looking for your advice to get me off the hook on this one

dylan
My local vet is a keen chicken man. I was chatting to him about the possibility of hatching some eggs under a broody at some stage and he said that when he was a child his mother used to hatch pheasants and peacocks underneath her broodies. Not sure if they actually lived together afterwards but I got the impression they did. Would make some great photos! Good luck Gill
chickenanne
When I was very little my Dad used to use broody hens for hatching pheasants.... the Light Sussex was often bred to enhance it's natural broodiness. I imagine that you'd want a cock pheasant for it's ornamental value, and I'm sure layers pellets wouldn't be the best thing for it. They are also much better at flying than chickens.
