we candled them again tonight

we worked out that we ought to have 12-17 hatching but sadly we are sure two are dead. we cracked them in a bowl and the poor things hadn't even developed properly

i dont have much experience but they look like these were diseased

thanks for posting - pictures like this are helpful reference - tho I have no idea what I'm looking at really! I hope the rest of your hatch is successful.

What stage of development are they? The one on the left definitely looks dead, as the veins have collapsed and are now black. The one on the right looks a bit more healthy....some of the veins are still very fine, and red, and the yolk yellow......was there definitely no heart beat with this one? (could just be how the colours appear in the pic).

this was at day 18 -they seemed to be moving a little but we decided they were too undevloped to leave in the incubator and we could only keep the incubator till wednesday (when we bring the chicks to their bigger brooder)
