Giving Flubenvet

Recommended Posts

I need to dose our girls with Flubenvet. The bumph with the little tub says to mix it in with their mash, but I'm sure I've seen people on here say they give it in grapes or similar. Ours adore grapes and are very crafty so I think this may be the way to go - but how much do I put on the grape?

Any advice "grapefully" received.

(I'll get my coat).

I use grapes, pasta or sweetcorn..

I measure out the amount I need for all the hens over the 7 days and put this in a pot.. then just cut a grape in half and dip the cut side in the powder.. as you only need a tiny amount per hen this seems to work out fine and all gone by end of week!

I used the grape method the first time, only problem is the girls like grapes so much that you have to be very clever or one gets double or triple dose :?

The last two times I have mixed it in with their pellets, this is much easier I think, but the amount of flubenvet is so tiny

Best of luck which ever way you decide.

Thanks for the replies! I used the "cut grape" method and held it out to each hen so they all got their grape. The only problem was Esme, who is that bit craftier than the others and had to be persuaded to take her grape "Come on, look, it's a nice grape, you like grapes..." (suspicious bok)...anyway, she eventually took her grape and then I had to hold the ravening hordes off so they didn't snatch it from her, and we now have 4 dosed hens.

I'm hoping this will solve the problems we're having with them lately. They're laying softies or not laying at all, and we've dusted them for red mite, put Diatom down and I've thoroughly examined them (more outraged bokking) but couldn't see any mites. The only possibility left, I suppose, is worms - and this would seem to be borne out by the fact that Aggie hasn't stopped laying at all.

We use apple cider vinegar but it looks like they need something stronger.
