worming - a few questions

Recommended Posts

hi all,

i have noticed a lot fo you talking about worming and the fact that they need doing at least twice a year, with some doing it three times.

1)We had our hens from Omlet (lovely birds) and wondered whether they were de-wormed before we took delivery of them (pretty sure they are, but it seems so long ago now)?

2)assuming they have been wormed, when are the likely to need re-dosing? They all are happy, regular layers with normal stools (what a lovely topic eh).

any help would be really appreciated, I just hope they are easier to worm than our cats :?:eh::(

thank you

Naomi

You might be surprised...

We wormed ours recently, as it was time to do so. They were fine, laying regularly, poo's were normal etc etc....

....but they still had worms. The evidence in their poo's after giving them the flubenvet (sp?) was clear to see.

So regular worming as I see it is just a good way of ensuring they don't have a chance to build up too much, and getting rid of the nasty things before the chicken gets any of the symptoms...

Every 3 months ours will get done now - whether they like it or not!!

I got my omlet hens this week and I forgot to ask as well however due to buying 3 others elsewhere I am going to worm them all in one go. The wormer arrived today.

Personally if you dont know and cant find out I would start again and worm them, probably no rush as they are healthy at least u know here u r with it then & its done

The other thing is to keep the run clean as otherwise any animal will just re infect itself

Am interested to know as well re omlet

indie :)

I use Flubenvet and follow the instructions of adding it to their pellets.

If you are not sure about their worming history I would worm them anyway

ANYTHING is easier to work than a cat! I just open my cats mouths now and chuck a handful of worming tablets at it hoping one will be swallowed, I may start using a slingshot
