Newmarcell
Hi Katie, We had a similar situation with our Gingernut ranger a few months into her laying. Our hen was egg-bound (got an egg stuck). She was very withdrawn, off her food - even treats, in and out of the nesting box all day, and straining towards the end of the 'ordeal'. We let our hen pass her egg natuarally, although I did look for lots of information and was about to take action when she passed it. Quite a few people suggested holding her over hot water so that the steam relaxes her and the egg can pass. Another idea that was suggested was rubbing some sort of lubrication around the vent - I'm sure someone advised olive oil, but hang fire on that until someone with more experienced knowledge comes along. Where did you get your hens from? Could you contact the breeder and ask for their advice. If you do see an egg stuck in her vent, don't break it as this will lead to infection. I hope she gets well soon. Thinking of you (and her!) Newmarcell
