4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi we've only had our 3 chickens for a fortnight but I find myself obsessed with waiting for the first egg!! Two of them don't even have their combs developed yet so all eyes on Beaky who does!! She's not crouching so I know it's not imminent but I can't help myself, I'm just dying for them to lay! Anyone else been obsessed with the first egg??? I'm worse than our 3 year old!

I was the same and was so happy when we got our first! I took photo's of it before it was cooked and then once cooked and on a piece of toast for my husband! Mad as a box of frogs.

Yep! Seems to be fairly normal I took a photo on my phone and sent it to everyone with a text. I was actually on the phone to my brother when my DD found our first egg and I was shouting down the phone to him - he was convinced I'd gone mad! Got lots of photos too and posted one on the forum!

Phew so I'm not as bonkers as I thought then - or maybe you just all are too ha ha!!

 

Is it ok to be singing 'chick chick chick chick chicken, lay a little egg for me' to them every day too?

Not if you heard my singing voice! But I talk to them and say thank you for every egg

That's a point, maybe my singing voice is putting them off!! I'll give them a day off tomorrow!!

I think we all suffer from these eggcentricities! I've just put a post on about my chicken's first egg (and she's my 10th chicken to come into lay, in fact I've put photos on of all my first eggs)

 

I always congratulate my girls for every egg they lay and thank them!!

I even dreamt about finding an egg last night, and when I told my husband this morning he had too.... but still no egg!!

 

My two toddlers have given up hope now, but not me, I'm still checking every day, despite the fact that they're still not crouching

 

3 weeks now without an egg, I'm seriously begrudging it every time I have to buy some Good job they're so pretty!!

Dreamt last night we found a speckledy green egg and a bright blue one - pretty impressive given our girls aren't or layers ha ha!!

yes yes and yes!

 

I was a nightmare. I would go out every day numerous times a day and check the egg hole. I dreamt of eggs and couldnt stop thinking of them.

 

Then when nugget laid MY HUSBAND found it! He had never checked them, never helps with them or anything and just ONCE went out as a favour and found it!

 

Then within a week or so the other two laid on the same day.

 

I am terribly impatient.

The egg will come soon ...my husband who has no interest even started asking when when when when when...so today I found little egg in the nest(& am glad she knew where to go to lay it...she had been laying down a lot the last couple of days all plumped up) so i did half suspect her behaviour had changed...

congrats on the little egg. can you still eat it. my 1 big girl that lays went straight into laying full size eggs daily. My banties layed normal eggs too, but were ever other day for the first few days.
