infinitymum
Hi! We have 9 girls ... only 6 seem to lay daily though. We've had them for 2 months now and they love their 30ft run and converted shed I clean their house very thoroughly once a week but am not sure if I need to do more? I remove their poo out out of blue trays that sit in a row underneath their long perch. The trays are filled with flat newspaper so very easy to clean. I s"Ooops, word censored!" off and remove any excess poo up the ramp/perch/walls. I clear the floor (which is covered in wood shavings). Change their nest box ... they all use the same one but they never poo in there! I then cover the walls, floor and perch with good sprinkling of mite powder ... then retreat!! In the meantime, I clean the water/food feeders outside, fill up the grit tray and remove any visible poo around the run etc. I then go back into the house and lay down new newspaper in the trays, put down a fair amount of new wood shavings and put some fresh hay in the nest box. I read somewhere that I should be disinfecting the house once a month too ... so I am a bit worried I'm not doing enough. What do you do?! adandsar
We have eglu so i believe easier to keep clean. We clean it and the feeders water etc throughly one a week. About once every 2 months we change the bark, they spend a fair bit of time out of hteir run, so it doesn't need much more than this (evenings and weekends are outside the run). If its needs it we clean water bowl thoroughly more often. They are quite easy to look after. To be honest, we don't have much chicken poo because I have caught the dog enjoying eating it! We also have a large garden
miffy
Hi, I am NO expert but based on what I have read this is my routine; Friday, dismantle and wash with Poultry Shield, let dry in the sun if possible, new bedding in nest box new newspaper in poo tray, renew DE putting some in the nest box as well as some red mite powder. I also replace the dust bath with ashes fron the fire, plenty of DE. Tuesday, clean out poo tray and clean roosting bars with Poultry Shield, renew DE replace Auboise in the run as needed about 6 weeks usually. Have just started (this week) using Stalosan in the run. Hope this helps
