loubielou Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 I am trying to get together an order for all my chicken supplies and have sorted feeders/drinkers/bedding etc, but am totally stuck on red mite control/louse/disinfectant. There seem to be so many different types I haven't a clue which one to pick! We will have 3 chickens and have a wooden house and fixed run with wood chips. What I need is: Red mite control (to sprinkle in house/bedding/on chickens) Disinfectant (to use in run and house) Not sure if I need...??? Louse powder (do I need this yet?) Wormer (do I need this yet?) Poultry spice ACV Is there anything else that is a *must* have product? chelsea Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 For me red mite powder, poultry spice and grit are the first essentials. I would also add a louse treatment to the list, particulary with the warmer weather approaching. I have never used ACV but I do know people that do. Wormer (flubenvet) is a must I believe for healthy hens but you do not need to get that today ....maybe a month down the line and worm every 3-4 months. I dont use disinfectant, we clean the cube with the power washer and hot water with a slosh of ecover washing up liquid in it. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Dogmother Posted April 22, 2009 Share Posted April 22, 2009 The liquid comes in a concentrate and a ready diluted verison with a spray top. I use it on the housing when I clean and sprinkle a little red mite pwoder in the next box too. I don't think that the powder is very good as a killer though, more a preventative.
