ValerieR
Sorry for non-sensical title. I was wondering - if we want our chickens to be tame and keen on human contact, what is the best age to get them at? My friend's mum is experienced at hatching chickens so she could hatch eggs for me easily enough (if I ask her nicely) if it is best to meet them immediately they are hatched. Also what should we do to encourage them to be friendly? Any advice gratefully received! Val
Ain't Nobody Here
Hi Val . I've no experience of hatching as I got mine at point of lay (16-18 weeks). There is a thread here you may find useful (if only to give you ideas of what happens at what age!) Here's another thread about handling chickens. BeckyBoo
Hi Val, having had ex batts who are 18 months old, point of lay at 16 weeks and eggs I can say that they are all as friendly as each other! So if you want to watch chicks develop then go for it, but if you want eggs sooner go for point of lay To be honest as long as you feed them they will love you forever! A good way to start handling them is at night when they're snuggly and dopey in the hen house, just pick one out for a cuddle, gets you used to handling them too, and once they're laying they're much easier to catch. Good luck whichever you choose! BeckyBoo
