Chicken training has commenced

Recommended Posts

We only had the new girls for a week before going on holiday so left them to settle in.

This week they got a bit of mixed corn, I have sprinkled a little each day, but leaving a handful on my hand by the run door. The first day they only came halfway up the run, by yesterday they came within 2cm of my hand and today two of them were eating corn off the end of my fingers on the grass in the run  . I am sure they will all be eating from my hand given another couple of days. They are already getting excited everytime I open the shed door (where the food is stored) so things are looking very promising for them growing into frriendly chooks!

Tracy, little do you know that your chickens are posting the following on another forum somewhere:

'Human training has commenced. This week we started to look interested in corn but pretended to be scared, to make us all the more adorable. We'll keep up the shy-but-friendly act for a bit longer, so that by next week we'll be given it every day; she'll be eating out of our hands in no time...'

This was my girls' tactic, and I was completely suckered by it!

As long as they do not start chating to the 'old girls' - they will tell them this house is bit mean on treats - only usually used to foil them inside the run, to entertain them when not free ranging, or during Hen Parties (which I haven't dome yet this year so they get far less treats).
