duckish delight
Hi everyone I am considering keeping a few campbell ducks in my garden . As I am new to this I am unsure what to expect. I have found this site very helpful and i have also sent for the book "Starting with Ducks". I think the eglu would be great but I would like 3 campbell's. Would an eglu be too small for 3 or can anyone tell me the recommendation for the amount of ducks per eglu Thanks for your help
Lesley
Hello It would depend on whether you intend to use the run attached or use the Eglu in a walk in run. We had two Campbells with the Eglu, run and extension which was OK but then we put the Eglu in a bigger walk in run. You can use a plastic container like the under bed storage ones from a pound shop as a pond but you need to place it just inside the door to the run as it will need emptying every day. Ducks are just sooooo messy! We found it easier to give them more room and to be able to walk in to clean it up and change the water. Guest
I think i just posted u a response...I had campbells slightly bigger than a mallard & Aylesburys..3 would probably b ok BUT ducks do need to roam and do love water(essential for them to duck their heads) they are so messy...they are good at eating snails and must say apart from rooting around in the lawn didtn eat my plants! But u must give them plenty of roaming safely of course(fox) You will have to put them in at night they will hang around outside the eglu but not like chickens I found if i wasnt in or late home they spent the night on our pond(lake)..they dont go in at dusk like chickens..u wil have to be around to usher them in. They are quite a tie All i can say is eglu run is not big enough...I visited a lady with one aylesbury in an eglu and run it was far too small. chickens are easier as i am discovering.. Good luck the ducks are cute but hope this helps(sure someone will disagree) indie
