4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Hi all,

 

my cousin owns 5 chooks (all different breeds)

 

well my mum was talking to him and he told my mum that he gets 7 eggs from his 5 chooks,each day!

 

is that normal?

i think impossible? It takes 25-26 hours to create an egg, so only one per day and at least one day off per week..... and depends on the breed - some lay less than this....so 4 per day would be what I would expect from 5 hens -with an occasional 5 & 3...

I had 3 eggs from two hens the other day! It's never happened before and the 3rd egg was not a softie.

I had been reading the 25-26 hour thing, and about them having a day off every week.

 

Well I must have super chickens as they started off like that, and then they went down to 23 hours, laying earlier and earlier in the day until they now lay first thing in the morning (as I had always imagined they would knowing nothing about chickens).

 

I only have two chickens, and the last day one of them had a day off (only one) was March the 18th! Since the 19th of Feb, there has only been two eggs missing. That is bloody good going I recon. It does seem very unlikey, but who knows. I do seem to be the minority with my super chickens.

Sounds a biy strange , mine rarely miss a day and in 2 months i've only had a couple of days when i haven't had 5 eggs

ive had a couple of times were the girls have hidden an egg in their bedding ond it re appear the next day. this may well be the case
