my girls eggs always had a lovely rich looking yolk but just lately its been quite pale . They still taste lovely, so not really complaining. Just wasn't sure if it had anything to do with their food......we changed them from mash to pellets recently, they didn't seem to mind though. My dad said they wasn't getting enough greens they do have some most days or they have leftovers dinner, and a handfull (or 2) of corn . I also put a tonic in their water, and they do look lovely and healthy to me so i am baffled as to why the yolk colour should have changed. Any suggestions?????

There's mention of pale yolks here. Don't know if that's the reason in your case though, sorry .

I was always told that feeding dark green veg improved the yolk colour. I grow swiss chard and perpetual spinach for mine and hang it up a few times a week. It only lasts seconds

thank you both for your replies I Will make sure they have greens every day from now on and see if that helps

hi my new chickens have been having really yellow yolks on the whole its mostly layers pellets but i do throw in(literally) some cow parsley out of the garden and they do get corn as a treat

 

 

Just a story..this week my auntie works in a newsagent that sells eggs had an old lady came in and as she walked out the shop complained the yolks were too pale and that my auntie was feeding her chickens the wrong food

 

The eggs come fresh from a local farm..(so u have answered her question as she wondered if the food made any difference)

She was gobsmacked...she doesnt have any chickens
