You can't get it anywhere in York that I've been able to find: WM Thompson's country store won't sell it without a prescription (and even then they only do the industrial dose stuff rather than either the 1% or 2% packages). Just had a feel round her vent/abdomen and can feel an egg in there. Her vent is palpating. Would explain why she keeps heading for the nest too. She hasn't laid since Friday and normally lays daily or thereabouts. Thanks again, we're going to try giving her a warm bat (!) and any other tricks to try and get her to lay. If not order some Flubenvet from Petmeds on line. It will be with you faster that way. Not sure if you live near a chicken breeder that could donate some Flubenvet to you. We tried the warm bath this morning but she wasn't too keen to sit in the water for long, so don't think that helped. Will try with a hair dryer shortly. Blossom has spent the day indoors in a cardboard box. We went out this afternoon and came back to find her eating her pellets which was good to see. She seemed keen to get out of the box too so we have just popped her back outside and she is having a fairly listless free range, but better than nothing. We'll bring her back in for the night I think. I'll take her to the vets in the morning (they have a poultry section there thank goodness) and see what they say. Hen Watch Posted May 4, 2009 Share Posted May 4, 2009 Hi. I had a chook 3 weeks ago that I suspected eggbound. Swollen abdomen, laboured breathing, sitting on the grass rocking. But it wasn't an egg. Vet gave her antibiotics and worming injections plus a course of oral antibiotics and she was fine few days later. May have been peritonitis. But actually I will never know. Now I've got a 2nd 2yr old chook showing same symptoms so may be off to vets again tomorrow. Hope you chook pulls through whatever it is.
