kirstenelisa
Hi everyone, I am new to the forum We have 8 chickens: Nugget - Burford Brown Merlin - Cotswold legbar Megazord - Ginger Ranger Cuddly Dudley - Ginger Ranger Sidney - Sussex Star Egbert - Coral Nova Tubes- Bluebelle Florence - Columbine ( I think ) We live in Wiltshire and have had them since Sept 08, gradually adding more. Latest are Egbert and Florence. All O.k with Egbert started laying last week lovely white/cream eggs. However Florence who is a Columbine and should lay pastel eggs laid a small brown speckeldy egg yesterday! pretty sure it is her egg but why is it brown! I spent ages trying to find her as I wanted pastel eggs. Do you think eggs will change colour or maybe she is not a Columbine? She does look like one toffee coloured with a whitish breast, Any thoughts Thanks Kirstenelisa
Redwing
Hi and welcome, congratulations on joining the world of the chicken keeper! They sell Columbines at my local garden centre and have a sign up saying that the chance of green/blue eggs is only 80% It looks like you may have one of the 20% i'm afraid - having said that perhaps it was one of the others? Someone on here bought a Columbine recently but didnt get blue/green eggs they got a cream egg, it definitely was not brown???
kirstenelisa
Thanks very much, Yes I knew that I might not get a blue/green egg ,but when I bought her they said if not they would be a pastel shade. So I'll wait and see what happens today Kirstenelisa
Snowy
When a few start laying at the same time, you often catch one sat on another's egg, so it could be that one of your others laid the brown egg and Florence sat contemplating her own! Only time will tell - I do hope you get a pastel egg
Guest
I have 2 Heritage skylines, one lays green/blue eggs and one lays rather boring brown ones!
kirstenelisa
Yes, I have been keeping an eye on them all day, and Florence the Columbine has definitely produced a small very boring brown egg! It's really annoying as I spent ages researching . Anyway she does look pretty but she is also very shy and haven't been able to pick her up yet. The new Coral Nova is much friendlier Thnaks
