meezers
I've had my 2nd lot of chooks for just over 2 weeks now ( I have group 1- my original 6, group 2 - the 4 I've had for a fortnight and group 3 , the 3 newbies, all in seperate runs, but they can see each other ) so I decided it was time to let group 2 freerange with group1. I thought I'd let them out 10 mins before I put group 1 back in their run, so it wouldn't be too stressfull for them ( me ! ) Group 1 were in the main garden when group 2 were let out of their run, group 2 made their way happily up the path to the garden where they were spied by group 1, who of course came running over to investigate - Muppet, Welly and Nora took one look at this lot running towards them and went hurtling back to their run leaving poor Ozzy to face them on her own, and she did, brave chook , they all wanted a piece of her ! I fended them off her , not helped by Ozzy who was jumping about yelling ' bring it on, think you're tough enough ?' I eventually convinced Ozzy to go back to her run and I shut group 1 back in their run, Welly, Muppet and Nora , bunch of cowards that they are, were stood in their gateway peering down the path watching the commotion- would have been funny if i I'd had time to laugh
bigmommasally
I shouldn't laugh but you tell it so well When are you going to try again?
meezers
I shouldn't laugh but you tell it so well When are you going to try again? pass on that one! it's not essential that they mix as the 2 runs and coops are seperate and I can always ( with a bit of juggling ) free range them seperately. If I do try again I might wait until a couple of group 1 are 'busy' in the nest box ( and I might accidentally shut them in ) so the groups are more evenly matched, but I'll have to wait until the cowards ( including me ! ) are feeling a bit braver. dancing cloud
I laughed too! My big girls used to come and look at the littlies in their eglu run, just to shout at them and run away - worse than toddlers! They do now free-range together relatively peaceably though My money's on that Ozzy - come on if you're 'ard enuff!
