Cambridge chiks
Hi, a week in and the three girls are settling in very well! I have noticed however that rather than roosting to sleep they tend to lie in the nesting area- and all 3 in one box! Does this mean that they are cold? It has been quite mild recently so if they are cold now I will need a plan for the winter! Anybody else have chickens that snuggle up together? quickcluck
Hi Cambridge! Most girls tend to pile up together, it's what they like to to there's no problem with them in the nest box, but if you don't want them in their block it off with a plant pot and they will soon get the hang of it!! Redwing
My girls sleep in a pile too, When they are roosting I can look in through the front door of the Eglu and not see a single feather because they are all piled up on the right hand side - I have four chickens in there! They do sleep in the nestbox, I used to stop them but then thought 'why fight it?'
cluckynikki
My two started sleeping and pooing in the nest box, so I put a big plant pot in overnight and removed it first thing in the morning. I did this for about 5 days and now they don't bother going in the nest at night. We can't resist taking the eglu door off and seeing them snuggled up together. It's so cute. Omletina Kyckling
Mine all snuggle up in a heap too! At night, I have to try to count heads to check everybody is there as it's just a mass of feathers otherwise! They also sleep in the nestbox! Ain't Nobody Here
Mine used to sleep in the nestbox but rarely do now .
Doodle
Mine did this until Nora went broody (and vicious) & hogged the box. Then the other two learnt to roost PDQ and Nora followed suit when she'd finished being broody.
