Gertie is sick again

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I posted that Gertie was unwell, she picked up and caused general mayhem in the garden by launching herself from the top of the run and landing in the garlic bed and eating a fair bit of it before rescue. She became unwell again on Sat and we took her to a vet on Monday. He said she had lost a lot of weight and was very sick but we could try Baytril which we have. She is much worse today laying down with her eyes closed and having constant diarhoea, she hasnt eaten since Sat and has only had the fluid we poured into her. My dilema is how long do I let this go on, I know when I take her back to the Vet he will suggest putting her to sleep. We love her dearly but is it time to let her go. I know you folks out there will understand the agony :(

Oh Appleblossom, I know the heartache!

Poor Gertie. I'm so sorry that she's still unwell.

It does sound as though you and your vet have done all you can to help her. Their spirit is very strong and they can keep pecking and scratching and making you think they're not too bad when really they're suffering and quite unwell.

I think if I were you I'd decide that she'd fought for long enough. It's a horrible decision to have to make, but you will be able to take some comfort from the fact that she didn't suffer for too long if you take her to the vet soon.

My thoughts are with you
