Scalley leg and bumble foot

Recommended Posts

Hey all, i have 40+ birds, which include guinea fowl, geese, ducks, roosters and hens. I had a rescue rooster brought to me after found wanding down a busy road, anyway he had scalley leg really bad, after treatment it cleared up, now he has bumble foot, i took him to the vets and he has been given baytril, he is now on the second bottle!!

He doesnt go to bed with the other birds and prefers to sleep on his own in a dog crate which im sterelising everyday, and the others cant get in there.

His toe is swelling up again and he is limping again, i asked the vet for a different drug to try and treat him but they havent got back to me as yet, does anyone have any other idea's i could do to help the poor lad - thanks x

Welcome to the forum, Jakesmum :) . Sorry to hear about your poorly boy :( . I can't offer any advice - you've obviously got loads more experience than me! - but thought reading through some threads on bumblefoot on the forum may be interesting for you?

thanks for the links, he is still the same today - stoooopidly i had to go out last night and asked a friend to put them birds away and drug the boy up and shes now gone out without giving me the meds back, i'll be on the phone to the vet in a minute and then get to walk 3 miles in the rain to the vets - Ohhh how lucky lol

he's worth it though

ive phoned the vets again and they have said after this course of anti-botics they may have to operate on him as there are no other drugs avaible.

does anyone know of anything else? she said if the operation doesnt work he will have to be put to sleep - such a shame!!

Ive also been looking at and trying to figure out what his breed is, i think he is a wyandotte!! nice looking lad

Hi,

Been battling with Bumblefoot for several months now!, tried two long courses of Baytril with 0.5ml of childrens Nurofen twice a day.

It seems to get a little better, the Vet removed the Scab, then it re-grows and we start all over again!

This time we are going to try Tylan with the Nurofen, so we'll see how it goes
