beingmaisie
I have 3, 5 week old chicks and have been keeping them warm at night under an electric hen. I have raised it up 1-2 inches each week and just wondered how many more weeks i need to do this. I took the wobbly legs off of it last week and now have it on bricks so it can go as high as it needs to but i want to make sure they harden off okay for going into their eglu in a few weeks. Has anyone let their chicks into the run of the eglu during the day and brought them back into the brooder at night. I know they are too young for the eglu itself. If so did you have any problems getting them out of the run without climbing in and fetching them. Please let me know your thoughts
moochoo
5 weeks is the normal time to take them off heat. Once they're fully feathered they can regulate their own temperature better. As long as the weather's ok there's no problem with popping them outside in the daytime and bringing them in at night. I'm planning to do that with my 5 week olds today. beingmaisie
When you say outside do you mean they live in the eglu?
Egluntyne
Yes. Just the two of them. They have been perfectly happy overnight in it for the past two nights.

Do you have the wooden slats in as i would have thought their feet were too small yet for them
Egluntyne
No, I just put plenty of Aubiose in the poo tray and nesting box.
