Crop issue advice please!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

bit of a convoluted explanation coming, so please bear with!

A couple of months ago our large hybrid developed what we reckoned (from the excellent postings here) to be an impacted crop. We followed the massaging/olive oil/restricted diet/cider water guidelines, and after a while she regained some interest in life.

Thing is, she's still got an extremely distended crop, like she's swallowed a golf ball. She's feeding fine, freeranging OK but only laying x2 a week.

Is this normal, or is there still something permanently stuck? Is there anything else - short of the vets - we could try? We tried to get internal Daktarin, but were told a prescription is needed...

Any thoughts appreciated - thanks in advance!

If she did have an impacted crop a while back it is possible that the muscles might not regain their elasticity.

If it's ongoing, it will probably result in problems for her - sour crop is a common after effect of an impacted crop.

I too would suggest that she sees a vet.
