eggs very very thin shelled

Recommended Posts

i have a amber star, who is newly laying well about 2-3 mths.

she started of the odd soft shell egg, and now we getting a very very thin shell. were the shell is very delicate, not had a proper egg yet of her.

im addig limestone, calcium to water grit/oyster shell mixed, is on offer (ive yet to see her in the pot), ive added it to food the grit/oyster shell. ive even thrown some on the ground to get her to scratch and peck at it she ignores it.

has anyone any other ideas? the eggs are a really nice size as well and very pale in colour (cream).

i had a similar thing with one of mine- i cut back all the treats! and wet a bit of corn and added the calcium grit to it (so it stuck) and fed it her seperately from the others. she scoffed it down! i did this daily and now we have lovely normal eggs. shes the smaller of the 3 so not sure if she eats enough layers meal to get all her calcium?

i also switched from pellets to meal which they all eat more of.

hope that helps

If you're feeding meal rather than pellets, be sure to give it a good mix. The limestone particles (which are the calcium portion of the food) fall to the bottom of the bag.

layer meal is that mash? mine are fed mash

Yup, give it a good mix.
