jenniewren76
Hi there My girls keep pooing in the nest box, I put lovely bedding in, their roost bars are higher than nest box and have checked they are ot too high as they roost in the day on them!! should I put in a fake egg? is that whats it for? or when it sort its self out when they are ready to lay? it can't be too long as one has right red comb and wattle does that mean its nearly time? So many question Thanks Jennie
Budgies
Hi JennieWren! My girls were the same and used to sit overnight sometimes in the nesting box. you can keep them out overnight by putting a football or large plant pot or similar in the box. However, if they're coming into lay (red wattles and comb are a good sign, crouching when you approach is a better one!) the fake egg in the nesting box is an encouragement to show them where to lay. So you might want to do both things, cover the nesting box overnight and put a fake egg in the nesting box during the day. However, they might not need showing where to lay - both my girls used the nesting box with no encouragement, I didn't even have nesting material in there for them! Redwing
They probably will know where to lay when the time is right they just like to fill the nestbox with poo too, keeps them out of trouble
