Okay it doesn't look like anymore of the eggs I have under my broody are going to hatch. Currently have a 2 day old chick being reared by her really well, in additon to her still sitting on the eggs!

Should I get a few other day olds if I can find them very quickly? Which is the best way to do this - will mum attack some new chicks or if I leave the eggs in and then replace with chicks will that work?

She is still expecting them to hatch but has come off the eggs with the chick quite a lot today (still never lets them get cold!). It is now day 23 and am going to try the water test!

Do I put them in a bowl full of warm water or just a shallow bit?

You will find that the mother won't accept any new chicks after about 48 hours.

Oh well crossed fingers then - it is a bit more than 48 hours and I have just put under her 2 lavender araucana and 2 Gold brahmas to go with her black araucana.

Will get up at 4am to check no bloodbath. She seemed to settle down on them okay, just went a bit manic at my hand. I knew it had to be soon :anxious::anxious:

I think I got away with it, thanks Egluntine :) . Was out at 4am to check and no bloodbath.

Broody has since been out for a poo and when I looked back in the nest a lavender peeked out at me :dance::dance::dance:

Think she has accepted them. :D:D:D It was a close call I realise that.
