broody hens

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have five bantum hens in an eglu cube, but always seem to have at least half of them broody and not laying any eggs. When it first happened I sorted the 2 hens out by putting them in a cage for 2 days and a month later they started laying again. But within a day of these chickens being 'cured' 3 more became broody! I have been going around in circles like this for a few months now and don't just miss the eggs but also seeing the chickens in the garden! At the moment I have 4 broody and 1 ok. I have tried the cage situation but I think I will just end up with more changing their mind again. I wonder if it is their particular hybrid? I am wondering about getting 2/3 Warren hens which I know from friends are good layers and seeing if they might change the dynamics/behaviour for the better? If anyone has any advise or suggestions it will be very welcome!

Thank you.

Alice
