Hi all,

I would like to make a permanent position for my hens when they arrive and would like to know what material is best to use?

What material do you use in the run?

How often to you change/clean this? and what with?

is your run on concrete or garden?

Sorry for all the questions i get my eglu on the 9th of June so want to get organised!

Thank you all

I use Easibed or Hemcore depending on what's in stock/cheapest.

Every six weeks or so I dig out the top few inches of soil/bedding and put it on the compost (or round established shrubs). I sprinkle down Stalosan F (a disinfectant) and garden lime (keeps the soil sweet) then a new layer of bedding.

is your run on concrete or garden?

My old eglu run was on soil which I was very happy with. My new walk in run is also on soil with concrete round the edges. I'm even happier with it :D8) .

Hope that helps :) .

Hi Charles82

I use rubber chippings (purple, lovely) have a guarantee to last 50 years

Just a quick rinse with the hose pipe, don't need to change, well only after 50 years :lol:

They are laid on soil with log roll edging around

I have put pictures of the rubber chippings in "Eglus, cubes & Runs" under "Purple Rubber Chippings - Pictures)"
